Career Coaching and Assessment - Plan The Right Career Path
There are two main categories of career assessment. The first examines a person’s aptitudes, training, and preferences, as part of career coaching development. This type is mostly reserved for high school and college students seeking a professional career that is well suited to their unique personalities and talents.
A different kind of career assessment examines career choices retrospectively, long after graduation. Companies and individuals, specialized in career coaching, will examine the person’s salary, benefits package, importance to the company, job satisfaction, and the stability of the company and the industry.
If you want a secure career future, you really need to consult a career coach. This person will guide you and honestly assess your strengths and weaknesses and what your options are. This is the best way to insure that you will have a job, no matter what happens with the economy.
Students may have decided upon a career long ago, but a coach can help determine whether the student’s education and skill set really suits that career. Perhaps an adolescent has pursued a particular profession since his youth, but the realities of preparing or training for it have burned him out. In this case, redirecting that student to a similar or even completely different career path may be of use.
Some modern companies are even now offering career assessment services and coaching internally. It may seem strange to provide an employee with an opportunity to discover that they don’t like their job, it is actually a good idea. While it may seem strange on the surface, it actually allows the employee to have peace of mind, realize the company is concerned for their welfare, and potentially show them a better career fit for them in another department.
Satisfied and happy employees will always benefit. These employees also will sense the positive image of their company which is looking out for their particular interests, as well as monitoring the profitability of the company. If they see a bright future for the business, they will remain loyal. Taking a good career assessment benefits everyone involved.
Assessment of a person’s career is a two milestone thing. The first milestone which comes early in a person’ life is known as career coaching development. This basically identifies the strengths/weaknesses of a student and thereby helps him evaluate as what careers would suit him. The second milestone comes a little later in life. This assesses the choice made in terms of one’s career, looking beyond a good salary and a reputed organization. Career assessment is useful to students as well as employees. Taking up a professional career involves a lot of things- a good assessment is just one of them. A career coach sees the bigger picture.
